For this last post I was looking for a gadget or robot that had some Christmas sense. In the Wave Samples Gallery I was unable to find a christmas tree gadget or anything in that order. I therefore would like to write a little about the last robot that I made. The wordpress bot, that you can install on your own appengine instance. This robot was initial tied up with my test blog site and only that.

In November the next version of the robot was released. This time the wordpress robot could publish to your own blog. It made it much easier for people to publish waves to their blog. A change was also made in the embed api by Google, so it was not possible to change the root blip. This makes the publishing much easier, then it just miss the option of viewing the wave without a Wave account. I can see that the robot wp-bot@appspot.com has published to 122 different blogs, so it is something that people are using.

You can see the demo of the robot hire.

I’m hoping to get some more time in the next year to improve some of the features of the robot.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this calender and have found some new useful gadgets, which you can use in your daily life with Wave. If you have any ideas for gadget you think we should have a look at please drop a comment or a wave.

Lifehacker describes the new Goolge Wave desktop notifier. Lifehacker is linking to the old version, the new version has some improvements. Google Wave Notifier is an application you install on your desktop and then you get notified when you get a new Wave in your inbox.

It works really easy and all you have to do is to enter your wave user id and password. When you get a new wave you can update the link, just by pressing the optup which comes.

For me it seems to work much better than the Firefox notifier. So I’ll try to see how it works out.

I normally prefere not to get any messages when I receive any mails or tweets. I prefer to check them, when I got time and need a break in my projects.

Translatey (translatey@appspot.com) is a robot that can translate your language to another. Its Based on Google-Translate API, That can do translation from/to 50+ languages. So now you can chat anyone using this robot even you cant understand any other language that are supported. Its really easy to use, Just add the robot in your wave and enter the language code of what translation do you want on what you are saying, To get the list of the language code just enter ‘/?’

This robot is useful in such way that you don’t need to research or look over the web when conversing and chatting. In most times, being able to use your own dialect makes one person more expressive. expressing oneself in its native dialect while chatting and allow this translator to translate it to a language that the audience understands is really a big help. One downside of this translator is the word-for-word translations that sometimes sounds wrong as oppose to its real meaning.

Task To-Do by Love sharma is a gadget that allows the user to enter a todo list and maintain it for the single user. The gadget is designed so each participant only see and manages his own list, there does not seem to be any sharing between users.

I have create a small video recording of how the gadget works.

It is coded in Javascript. I would at least have thought it would be nice to have tasks that was distributed between all members of the team.

The ChartMarker Gadget is a gadget for creating graphs in Google Wave. It is really easy to use you add the robot with the address chart-maker@appspot.com.

To make a graph you use a command like the following {p 3,4,5}.

It is also possible to create other chart types like:

lc forLine with axis

p for simple pie chart

r for Rador diagram

For more options see the projects page.

I have created a small video showing the gadget.

The code for the robot is really simple. When submit is pressed the blip is searched for a chart command. The cart command is then converted into a url for Google Chart APIs like http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?chs=250×100&chl=10|30|60|43&chdl=10|30|60|43&cht=p3&chd=t:10,30,60,43

I really pleased with today’s calendar. I’m a fan of scrum as a way to make project much more agile. I have been experimenting with using Google Wave for organizing our scrum effort. Wave contains many of the elements which required organizing a scrum project. It has the option of creating all the content and collaboration.

One part there is missing is the ability to estimate each story. A tool used in for this is Planning Poker. Where each participant can select how many points they want to assign to the story. When everybody has selected their guess the guess is shared between participants, and they can figure out if all has the same idea of the difficulty of the plan.

I have recorded a small video of how the gadget works.

This tool is currently just in beta, and we want to improve it. The tool will only be for our subscribers, so please signup on our mailinglist to get access to the location of the file. We would sure like some feedback on what you think of the tool. So when you have signed up to our mailinglist and tried the tool out; drop a comment on this blog of your thoughts. I seen the like on Sunday, so signup now. There is a form for the mailing list on the right.

The gadget has been made in Adobe Flex, which makes it possible to make some better looking gadgets.

Google Wave is still on its early stages and we all know that there are still a lot of functions that are missing in the current release. One such feature which is really nice to have would be the read-only feature. As of now, it’s not yet possible but we are certainly looking forward to the day when we can set our blips or waves as read-only. But for those who cannot wait, you can use Read Onlie (readonliebot@appspot.com) robot. This robot allows the user to set their blips to read-only.

Currently, there are three keywords (case sensitive) that the user can use:

“OWNERONLY” – nobody can edit except the owner of the blip

“READONLY” – nobody can edit the blip including the owner

“RESTORE” – restores the parent blip data (still needs work)

How does this work?

Just include the keyword in the text and after the blip is submitted the robot will check if the keywords are present in the text.

We already covered the WaveBoarder application, which is a helper application to Google Wave. The gadget makes it easier to navigate in Wave with the iphone and mean you only have one place where you can work with it. The gadget is available on itunes.

The video I created can be seen bellow.

I feel the application has been user friendly. If that is because HTML version for the iphone has been improved. But the whole experience works much better now. So it could actually be an application you can use for something useful.

As we all know we can already embed youtube videos into our waves, but what if we don’t want the hassle of uploading videos at youtube? Good thing we can use Nimbb gadget. This gadget allows us to add webcam video recordings into our wave. With this gadget we can share video messages with our contacts.

Nimbb is easy to use but the gadget is only good for one recording. If you decided to send another recording, you need to add the gadget again to be able to record a new message. Another limitation of this gadget would be the maximum duration for a recording which is only 30 seconds. So for short video messages, Nimbb is for you.
