The last period has been quite hectic. My team and I have been working on creating a release version of Caseish. Unfortunately, we have not yet succeeded in achieving all the goals that we had created. But, we are still on the positive side and there will always be room for improvements.

We have developed Caseish as a tool for organizing your Waves in an easy-to-create way. Here, is a demo of Caseish in the video below.

I have had the opportunity to try out wave for my domain for the last couple weeks. I have used it on masteringwave.com. It has been a really nice experience and looks like it will propel wave in to the business side.

First Waves has already covered some of the functionality at with their post Google Wave Available to 31000 University Students. Where they talk about a university using Wave and show some screenshots.

I have been using wave to organize my team’s efforts since we got started using the preview version of Wave. But it did lack some features that are really nice in organizational perspectives.

It is still in preview and there will be more changes to the wave system. So it is likely to change in the future.

I really like the way the group function. All your mail groups can be used as groups in wave. It seems like the groups are using groups for apps, if such a thing exists. It is nice that you only have to provision the users on place.

It is possible to see when you are Waveing with people outside of the domain. This is really nice feature, and allows you to see if it is a private conversation you are having.

Also as with Wave you get your whole address book, so you can communicate with the people on your list.

It is of course to communicate outside of your own domain with other domains. I have not yet configured anything in my DNS to allow this type of wave communication. I guess that it has to be configured the same wave you configure your mail domain. But since there are no third party waves out there yet the configuration is probably quite minimal.

We got access to see how it was to develop apps for a hosted wave service. It is quite possible, but we still have some issues that we need to figure out how to manage before we start using it to the public. But basically wave works just the same way, it is just not sure that all participants are from the domain googlewave.com anymore. So if that is hard coded in any robot/gadgets it should be removed.

We used Google single sign on to make it possible to sign-up to log on to our service. For this to work properly, our app needs to be a part of the Apps Marketplace.

When you create a wave in the domain, the wave id will be prefixed with the wave id. The Wave id is then longer then the waves from googlewave.com. It is a question if those waves also will be prefixed to fit into the structure. So, when all waves need to be prefixed with the domains, then all the current waves will not work. I suspect there will be a solution for this.

For the usability part of the application, it is really nice to just have one place where all communication, both for guidelines and day to day communication.

Google Wave is living up to its promise and now you’ll be learning about how to remove participants from a wave.

If you are the one who have started the wave, you have full control over the participants you wish to remove. And, the only participant you cannot remove is yourself since you are the one who created the wave.

To be able to remove a participant from a specific wave, all you need to do is click his or her picture, which is located at the top of the wave, and then click “Remove.” If you have done this successfully, the participant will only be left with a read-only copy of the wave and he or she will no longer have access to whatever content you will be adding on the wave.

Also, if you have removed a participant before they have actually opened the wave, the entire wave will disappear from their account.

It’s good to know that Google Wave continuously develops helpful and easy-to-use features so watch out for more and keep posted!

The default start screen has been changed. You can now start a new wave containing some prefilled content.

Templates are not something new The Shiny Wave had a post about a user contributed list of Wave templates. I’m not sure if any of the templates from the project has been reused. But some of the ideas have. The difference is that with this new addition you do not have to find a wave template and the create a new Wave based on this.

An example of this looks like this.

The idea is fantastic, it will allow you have some much better synchronized and harmonized waves. It seems like it is missing the option of adding your own templates to the list. It could be some extensions you added or something defined in your Wave for your Enterprise.

Hi Everyone! We’re presenting you a simple 5-part video tutorial showing a sample in creating a google wave gadget using flex (Flash Builder Beta as the IDE and Flex 4 as the Compiler). The application is of the same with the common flash actionscript file having a counter button that increments the result number by 1 and a reset button that resets the result number back to 0. Any of the participants that will click the buttons will be able to update the state having them with the same result on their screen. Apologies if you find the video not clear enough and so as the speaker or mispronounced some words but hopefully you’ll be able to follow and at least this will give you a head start.

The 1st part of the video is some sort of a short introduction to flex showing how to call or place given components from flex through typing the codes or dragging the component in the design view.

The 2nd part of the video demonstrates how to add functionality to your components and testing the application locally.

The 3rd part of the video shows how to apply google wave api (wave-as-client) or incorporate it as a library in the flex application/project.

Reminders: You always need the wave-as-client as the library of the flex application and make sure to have the wave-as-client.js placed in the same folder of the release build. In creating a gadget.xml, just make sure you’ll be able to apply an extension code to the url of your flex swf file application to avoid caching to prevent problems in updating and testing the application on the wave.

When you are working on designing your business or a product launch, it requires the use of some of the strategic tools. It can be the SWOT, PEST or PESTEL or the BCG growth matrix. Normally work on those tools is done in a room and on a whiteboard. The whiteboard is a really great way to work and it can make people work together and create a lot of interesting content. It though has some challenges for teams that are not sitting together or are difficult to get in the same room.

With Google Wave can collaborate on creating the same result. But then you will have to use different blips for managing each cell and this can lead to some unstructed content. With the help of a gadget there can be more structure on the content. See the following video to see what the gadget is able to do.

I’m looking forward to see when the Appstore for Google Wave will be released, so it is possible to sell the gadgets and spend more time on development of the applications. I tested quite a bit of different Google Wave gadgets in my christmas calender last month. I tried 40 different apps with a large verity in their complexity and usability. Some of them did not have any useful functions or did not work.

I really liked many of the ideas created in the gadgets and some was really useful. It was fun to see how people wanted to impress with new ideas.

The quality of the gadgets and robot was lausy. Mine included. I believe that many of to my application must be improved. But with the limited option in the robot API hinders making layouts to shine. It also provide a hindering there is a lack of way the gadget/robots can work together. If there was a better way to make the gadgets/robot work together, the layout issues could be solved.

I will say that most of the gadgets except maybe the simpler voting gadgets all require extra work before they can be used by a wider audience. The robots where you need to write commands with # or ! as the only thing in blip, I doubt that my mother will pick it up easily which is required to get non tech savvy users on board.

One key to make it possible to get the robot to function better is to pay the developers. I guess most of the developers of the robots/gadgets I have seen just tried the protocol out of see if they could make something useful. And they can. But to make them look wave-y the gadgets need to look better.

To make the gadgets/robot complete we need to be able to get some better apis and more importantly be able to charge for your apps. Currently it can be possible to charge for the usage of a robot and with some development also a gadget, but it is a pain and will require to much of the user.

I’m therefore looking forward a Wave app store is created. It will be interesting to see if it only supports one time payments or monthly payments and maybe even corporate multi seat licenses. The wave app store will mean that more developers will start with developing programs for Google Wave, making the platform more attractive.
